These pictures show why we need to recycle.
Sea Angels are believers in recycling what we can. We continually find copious amounts of glass bottles, water bottles and cans. Currently there are no recycle bins at Ocean Inlet Park so we have been to taking our recyclables to a transfer center. We appreciate all the work our volunteers by helping us with our efforts to recycle this litter off the beach. We are asking for anyone interested if they would like to help us with a new initiative sponsored by Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful.
In order to help us with the disposal of litter Keep PBC Beautiful has given us blue recycling buckets for those volunteers interested in helping. Basically, a bucket would be given to a dedicated volunteer who attends our cleanups regularly and we ask if they would be willing to take a full bucket home or recyclables and empty that bucket into their curbside bin. The bucket is yours to use and we hope you would be a continuing asset to our cleanups and our cause and bring it back to our cleanups to use.
Your help in making us the leader in greener cleanups is appreciated and we hope you'll want to be participate. If you have any questions please contact us at info@seaangels.org.

Just a Thought
by Robyn Halasz
After cleaning the beach for years I have noticed the problem of litter doesn't seem to be going away. Every week I clean and every week I collect several buckets full of trash. Sometimes it makes one wonder if it is all worth it. My answer to that is concretely YES!
Although it may be frustrating to keep cleaning up the same discarded items such as cigarette butts, plastic water bottles, and soda cans, I know without cleaning these things up the trash will just pile up. Animals are effected just as much as humans if not more since they do not have a choice to live amongst the left behind fast food containers, plastic bags, broken glass so on and so forth.
As important as it is to pick up litter and not litter in general it is also wise to be educated on the reasons why it is important. A plastic water bottle will still be here on earth hundreds of years in the future. Good thing they didn't have plastic in the 1500's because we could be dealing with centuries of our ancestors garbage.
If people have knowledge of what litter can do maybe it would correct some bad habits or spark an interest in helping. Knowing something like how bits of plastic are ingested by sea birds can either choke them or starve them to death. Harsh reality but true. The small pieces of plastic sits in their stomachs and the birds feel as if they have a full belly and therefore do not eat and starve to death because they can not digest the bits of plastic. Another harsh fact is endangered sea turtles see plastic bags floating and think they are jellyfish and ingest them. Jellyfish is a food source for the turtles. The bags can get stuck in their digestive system which can eventually killing them. These are not fun facts but realities.
They say ignorance is blind but not when it pertains to this world wide issue of littered trash. Knowledge truly is power. However, this fight against litter can only be won if we everyone worked together to do the right thing. There is always hope that we can convert a litter bug but in the meantime I will still be diligent and doing my part in cleaning up after others. Hopefully others will join the fight for no other reason then they care about our environment. *** For more information on the harms of litter click on our Animal Education page or our Litter Education page ***
